Home and New years!

This is my first blog this year!
I have returned save from Greenland a couple of weeks ago, and I now have a lot of awesome memories from it:-)

The day after i cam home I went to Thisted, and then Bjerget to celebrate new years eve with a bunch of metalheads:-)It was a great night, i went to bed a bit early though. I was pretty trashed from Greenland:-)

The next day i spend with some of my friends from boarding school who had been celebrating new years close by, we went to see the new Jim Carrey movie "Yes!". Very nice to hang out with them again!

The day after I went straight to Vejle to meet with the GLDF-coregroup since the Green Light District Festival is not that far away and we need to get the last things done:-) That was a great time with the guys!

Day 12 - shopping and skiing!

Today we got up early to go shopping for the stuff I would like to bring home:-)

Some of the things I bought, besides the wristbands. I got them from Ulla(Hannes mother)who have made them! - They cost 250kr. in stores, and are a small part of the Greenlandic national costume:-) I was very honored!


I got my ears pierced! - Again:-P


This is a whales tale made out of stone. It is a symbol that is in earings, necklaces and so on here:


After we had been shopping we went out to the skilift:-) I have been skiing once before in Norway, but I had forgotten a lot but quickly remembered some of the most important techniques...It wasn't pretty though:-P But fun!

Straight after we came home we went to a "Kaffemik" at Elisa and Aqqalu. It was Elisas 61 birthday. She is working in the church, with counseling and much more. She is the mother of a Greenlandic girl I went to boarding school with, whom I actually meet in the church christmas eve:-)
It was a very cultural experience! - I tasted some very typical Greenlandic fish dishes while Hanne was filming, with her brand new and nice camera:-P...Interesting!

After dinner Hanne, Lene and I went into the church room and played some music:-)

Then Rosa came by and we dressed up to go to "Heath", which is tree clubs/pubs/discos that has been joined. The first of them is a club were the youth(14-25) of Nuuk is hanging, the second a pub,(25-45) and the last place (45 - and up)
Hanne wanted me to meet some more of her friends and the fun of seeing me dressed up. They have a very strict dresscode! - We made it a "trip of prayer". We went down there to pray for the youth. We observed while we prayed sitting, walking around so on...I observed this guy with long hair and black clothes, walking alone looking like he was in the wrong place, and I just felt very strongly that I needed to do something, and he kept walking by no matter were I was! - So I ended up giving him the website for our danish christian metal forum on a trashed sales slip:-P The music was very loud so I could not say much, but he was very open, in his body language:-) I really hope he has kept that note!

Day 11 - Café and more snowcave...

We were supposed to get up early to go to the lift, but it was snowing a lot so the lift was probably closed, so we chose to stay home and sleep a bit longer:-P

When we finally got up we went to a café called "Barista" to join one of Hannes friends called Rosa. A very nice couple of hours:-)


Then we went home to relax but ended up building some more on our snowcave:-)

Afterwards we ate homemade ice-cream:-P

Day 10 - Snowcave and "The Dark Knight"!

Today has been a day of relaxation. We got up a bit late and then Hanne, John and I saw "Batman - The Dark Knight" - One of my christmas presents. I have been looking forward to see it again ever since I saw it in the theatre:-) It is really good!

Then Hanne and I went outside to build a small snowcave:-P Very fun, and Hanne is really good at it! We did not finish so we hope to continue another day:-) We made dinner, very easy since most of it was leftovers from christmas eve. I made caramelled potatoes for the first time in my life:-P

In the evening we played 2 boardgames. The first is called "Sequence and was one of Hannes christmas presents. The other one is called "Alias" - and is a wordgame.

They were both quite fun:-)

Day 9 - Christmas Eve!

We got up early to go to the hospital here in Nuuk(were Hannes mother work) were we ate breakfast at 9 o'clock. It was snowing! - For the first time while I am here:-P All other days it has been clear and beautiful weather...
At 10 Santa Claus arrived at the hospital in a fire truck. Normally he arrives in a helicopter, but it snowed too much for him to land. Then he walked through the hospital with gifts to the patients:-)



When we got home we had to clean the house and church before the christmas service, which was cool! - We sang christmas carols in Greenlandic, which was fun:-)



Afterwards there were "kaffemik" in the house, a tradition were some of the people from church come by to get coffe and talk:-)

After that the preparations for christmas eve started and about 6 o'clock a guy named Ulrik walked through the door singing in Greenlandic, very cool:-) He was invited to celebrate christmas by the Østergaard family. He is from the
church and his family lives far away in another city in Greenland.



After a lot of eating, which I have to say has been a huge part of my vacation with this family:-P(well it is christmas)
we prayed after Lene shared something from her heart, worth remembering:-) Afterwards we sang chriatmas carols while dancing around the tree:-)

Then presents. I got one from the Østergaard family. Very nice of them, and unexpected! - It contained a necklace and earrings. The necklace was made out of raindeer and formed as Greenland. The earrings was made out of whale:-)

When we were finished John, Ulrik, Hanne, Lene and I played a new game called "Olsen bandens 14. kup" - It is a boardgame based on a series of 14 danish movies with 3 guys trying to rob different people, but they always fail and one of them ends up in jail everytime.

Day 7 and 8 - Homework, relaxation! - Sightseeing and more christmas stuff:-P

Day 7 has been a quiet day. I have been doing homework most of the day while watching O.C, which I saw for the first time last night. Hanne has all the episodes:-P

Day 8
Today Hanne and i was sightseeing in Nuuk. Hanne drove me around so I could see the places I had not been before. Now I have seen it all:-) We found out the small ski lift has opened so we hope to get some time to go skiing one of the days:-)Right after we went sledging for a few minutes before going inside:-)

After a delicious dinner the christmas tree was decorated and we saw some homevideos of the family, very fun! - With apple dumplings, and homemade cookies:-)


Afterwards Hanne, Mette, Lene and I saw a movie(The Wedding Date)

Day 6 - Christmas baking, sledging and church!

Today was the 4. sunday in advent, and when I came out into the kitchen a small present awaited me. Hannes mother had bought it for me:-) So nice of her!

We started the day preparing a flee market with some of the stuff we took with us from the apparment we emtied. The money went to the lady we helped:-)

After that we went to church. Three got baptized by Hannes father John, very cool and very moving! - It was so cool to see how happy these three people were! - They shined so much:-) It was very fun to sing in Greenlandic! - I have catched some of the sounds of the language now, with good help from Hanne:-)
They really have a nice church, people are very happy and you can feel God is here even though you dont understand the songs:-)

When we were finished with the meeting Hanne and i went for a walk. This time I saw a new part of Nuuk. The old part, which is very nice!

When we returned we ate very delicious food once again. The evening was spend baking, making candy of different kinds:-)
