Day 4 - School and chinese food...

Today we started with yet another subject called "History of Texas". Our teacher is really cool and funny, so i think we are going to learn a lot from him:-)
Then we had more "gaming" and "open lab" were we played some "Tekken" "Hidden", "The Ship" and "Counter Strike".
The thing that is really a problem for us Danes here, is the air conditioning. Many have gone a little sick from it. We have jackets on inside of the college, since the air condition makes everything so cold!

In our 2 hours break me and Morten went to a Chinese restaurant nearby. It was okay, besides the cola, which once again tasted like chlor:-)

In the evening we tried to do some homework for the next day, as you can see on the picture:

Day 3 - First day of school!

Today we had our first day of classes at ACC(Austin Community College). The first class was literature, very cool, but i am not so much into the book we are talking about:-)

After Literature we had 2 hours of break which we spend in Highland Mall which is right next to ACC. There we had some early lunch. The food was good, but the soda, tasted like chlor! - Here it is:

Afterwards we went right back to the school to have our first class of gaming. That is a really cool subject! - I hope i am going to enjoy it a lot:-)

Then we had two hours of "Open Lab", which is homework time:-) Right after we had a bit about the parties in the US. so that we are ready to follow the election on 4th of November...

We had a nice evening too:-)

Day 2 - Barton Creek Mall and Church!

Me and my friend Morten started the day by going to church in a church in walking distance from the hotel. It is called: "Church of Christ". That was a very special experience! - We were welcomed by so many people! - They came and introduced themselves, and asked us where we are from. The service was only about an hour long. The thing that was very different is the way they sing. There were no musical instruments at all. I have a video of the church chair with the singing on, it will be up very soon.

After the service we were invited to lunch by one older lady. She was very nice:-) A very different experience!

After church we went almost directly to Highland Mall were the rest of our class were. We got a bit lost on the way:-P From there we went to Barton Creek Mall. We were actually supposed to go to Barton Springs, but we went to far by bus so we will wait:-P

Highland Mall:

Directly after 2 hours in the mall we went to Austin city once again to watch bats! - They have a bridge were thousands of bats is assembled underneath it. When it gets dark they all fly out from under the bridge. They are very proud of it, but we have to say that we were a bit disappointed:-P We did not see as many bats as they had told us:-P But it was very cool to watch the city and hang out with my classmates by the bridge....

Here we are waiting for the bats:

Day 1 - Austin downtown and Duck Tour!

Today we had a information barbeque-party at the pool at noon. Very nice:-) We meet our first two americans on this trip. First Kathy who gave us a briefcase with information about what we are going to see this month and how to get there and everything, very cool! - She works on ACC(Austin Community College), and is the one we can call in case we need help to figure out something:-) The other american Ellie too worked on ACC and told us a bit about Austin and the things we can visit.

Later on we took a couple of buses to get to downtown Austin. There we went on a "Duck Tour". We got some very weird duck beak which could make this very high sound if you blow in it:-P Just like those you can buy for new years eve. The we went for a ride in the duck, which drove into the water. On the tour the driver gave information about the city.

When we where finished, we had the rest of the day to explore at Austin. So me, my classmates: Morten and Kasper decided to do so. We ended up in a Mexican restaurant for dinner, called: "Iron Cactus". Very nice. The vaitor was very cool! - He had long hair and was alternative, and he spotted my tattoo which ended in him giving me a card to a good tattooist, showing me his nice tatto! and giving me an address of a band that he was promoting and managing. - So that was pretty cool:-)

We went home to the hotel and after wards went to the local supermarket to buy what we needed. We had a very nice evening after wards were we were talking, hanging out at the pool and so on:-)

It has been a really great day! - We experience so many things so it feels like we have been here for days already! - It is really cool:-) We can not do anything else than just take one day at a time. It is hard to get an overview of everything we have to do this month:-P

Finally there!

We left the 10th of october at 6 o’clock in the morning from Odense Trainstation to go to Kastrup Airport. Everything went fine, with the security checks and so on. We only had one from our class who had an extra security check because of his football t-shirt. We had a 9 hours and 30 minutes flights from Kastrup. We had a lot of weird flight-food and watched some movies. It was a nice flight even though we were tired of sitting in the same position the last hour:-P It was a beautiful view from the window, I was so lucky to get a window seat, so I could admire Gods amazing masterpiece! – We flew over countries like Iceland, Greenland and Canada. Very beautiful! Well we arrived at Atlanta were we had been prepared for immigration. That was the thing we were most nervous about, and we had gotten very strict instruction on how to behave and answer their questions. It was very confusing because the forms we had filled out at home in Denmark was not good enough so we had to hurry and fill out some new ones. Everybody got through, so that is good:-)
The last flight went fine too and we landed in Austin 8:45PM local time. We took some shuttles to get to the Hotel Extended Stay Deluxe – Metro in Austin. The hotel had arranged pizza, which was very nice after we had been awake for over 24 hours:-P They had also arranged breakfast for the next day. It was a muffin, and Danish, but I am really sorry that we are identified with what they call danish, cause well, it was not the best thing ever:-P But it was very nice of them to make sure we had something to eat:-)
Our rooms are very cool! – I am the only girl and have a room all to myself. It is just as big as the others who sleeps in groups of 2 and 3. So I have a huge bed to sleep on:-)
That was all for my first blog post from Austin, Texas!

My classmate Michael enjoying his pizza in the flight:

Here are we outside the airport trying to figure out where we are going and how, luckly the teachers came to our rescue:-P

Here you can follow our activities too: http://texas.otg.dk/

The United States of America!!

As some of you know i will soon be going to the USA for a month on a schooltrip. To be exact: from 10th of October to 8th of November.
I will be staying at a hotel with my class mates in Austin, Texas. We are going to school every day at “Austin Community College”. We will be studying primarily 3 subjects that are especially designed for us: "English Litterature"(includes a lot of reading, which we started on doing when we started this year of school.) "Texas History" and "Gaming and Design graphics". (The last one is the one I am most excited about. The class before us, who went on this trip had homework like: “Guitar Hero” and “World of Warcraft”. And our teacher has a cool philosophy that is very different from other teachers:-P “Counter Strike” is not just sillyness but research:-P) In gaming we will be making and designing a real game. In the end of the stay, directors of some of the biggest game companies will be coming to judge our work!

There will besides school be a lot of places that we will visit. We will take a trip to N.A.S.A to get a guided tour and see a bit of Houston. We should have gone to the small island Galveston, but as you probably know, there is not much left of that island, so we will stay right outside of Houston.
We will also take a trip to San Antonio and see The Alamo and some other tourist attractions. We will experience a football match, Halloween and the presidential election the 4th of November.

Besides that we will probably go to a concert or two in Austin and me and my Christian class mate Morten, will visit some churches. I love visiting different churches to see how they do things different, and get inspired by it. I have been travelling a lot these last two years and seen a lot of different churches. It is really interesting and i am looking forward to see some american churches.

The class consist of 16 boys and me:-P So it is going to be a challenge, which i am looking forward to!
We have been preparing this trip since we started this summer. One of the subjects that we have on the highest level we can have(A) is Communication and IT. Here we have been divided in 3 groups. Each group had to make a website to a decided target group.

Group 1: Parents and teachers(my group) – in Danish
Group 2: Young people, friends of us – in Danish
Group 3: The people we meet in the US(teachers and so on) – In English

There will be posted pictures, video’s and we will be writing articles. You are of course very welcome to check it out:-)
I will be blogging here as much i can. I hope it will be every second day, or at least when something exciting has happend. And I will post pictures and video’s here as well:-)

Here are a picture of the hotel we will be staying at:

Kansas City! - Once again:-) aaand... New Breed Festival!

This friday i once again spend the evening/a bit of the night at Kansas City. Everytime i have been there im so excited and just have to blog about it:-P This time Illdisposed, Insickina and Grimmthurs were playing. I really enjoy being a part of the fellowship there is on Kansas City, the people there are very cool!
It seems like i work better and harder when metal music is filling the room, that i enjoy very much too!

Saturday evening i spend in Herning at New Breed Festival, with 6 hours of metal:-) Just what i needed and cool and great to see some of my friends before i will leave to go to The States(More about that soon)!

It has been a bit of a tough week though. Besides all the packing and other stuff to do before leaving for Texas, my grandmother has gotten sick. In the beginning of this week she had lost her will to live and it was not looking good. But now things are starting to brigthen. She is in the hospital, which is a miracle in itself, and i am very thankful for it, and i visited her today. She looks so much better so thats great:-)
